This is an old c41 roll that I recently had a chance to develop. Its some more of the cheap dollar bin film I bought at Adorama. The first 2 rolls I cross processed in E-6. I absolutely loved those results I got from that little experiment and plan on doing it more often. The only knock on it is that it becomes a bit expensive to cross process on a consistent basis. So I figured I would develop this last roll normally and I was again very pleased. As expected, there is more contrast, less of a yellow hue, and overall more realistic color.

Yah, so pretty much everything I said in the last horribly long winded post, well this is the roll I shot with my Yashica LM trl. I would've had more film that I shot with my Mamiya Press and the 6x7 back, but I forgot to take the darkslide out, as I mentioned in the previous post. So this is all I have to document my little photo walk that day, besides the polaroids of course. Hope you enjoy.

I probably haven't shot in black and white since high school photo class. And honestly I thought it was just a little too cliche and or nostalgic for my taste. It just always reminded me of 16 and 17 year olds running around with their dads camera thinking that they're artists because they shot a few rolls of black and white film and got an "A" on their report card. But then again, I was one of those kids... It certainly takes more than just a film type to master this great medium but it has to start somewhere.

So I guess I would call this a little throwback to my roots. No worrying about color saturation and hue's, no cross processing or tweaking. Just concentrating on composition and subject. Black and white simplifies and slows things down for the photographer that is constantly thinking about things other than what is in front of him or her.

So I stopped into Adorama about 2 weeks ago and I found this bargain bin of expired color negative film for a dollar each. I couldn't pass that deal up so I bought 5 rolls of expired konica vx400 film. I figured at that price, I might as well try something a little less typical. I decided that I would cross process the color negatives in e6 chemicals. I had tried this once before and I fell in love with the results. Usually it gives a nice vintage, desaturated image that ends up having a yellowish green tint, depending on the film. I have to say I have become hooked on this technique, and as you may or may not know I do a lot of traditional cross processing. But I am quickly finding the soft vintage tones to be more inviting. The images take you into a time warp to days long gone by. Traditional xpro can be nice as well, dont get me wrong. But unfortunately sometimes it may be too rich, kind of like eating something too sweet. I find this to be a great blend of color shift and low dynamic range. In other words, I think its pretty cool. Go ahead and try it out!

So this roll came about as sort of an accident. This roll was originally comprised of my trip to the poconos a few weeks earlier. I got about 3/4 of the way through the roll and a freak accident occurred breaking my bessa r's viewfinder. Well anyways to make a long story short I went to get it repaired and the technician had to take the roll out in order to repair the viewfinder. So essentially I had the choice of continuing the roll where I left off, once the camera was fixed or just shooting the roll from the start. I was hesitant at first because I thought I had some great shots and I didn't want to take the chance of ruining them. Well I bit the bullet and I did it anyways, and I have to see I am pleasantly surprised with the results. When I shot the roll again I didn't pay much attention to getting the frames lined up so thats why some frames overlap. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow, enjoy!

So far this is one of my favorite NYC sets, the colors just intrigue me so much. What I did was, shoot fuji t64- tungsten film and cross processed it and I got this yellow lemony flavor. It really is one of my favorite results as far as cross processing goes and I will be shooting this alot more often.
